In 2023, Washington State passed two landmark housing bills that changed the game for homeowners:
House Bill 1110 legalized middle housing including fourplexes on most residential lots across the state, opening up density in neighborhoods that were previously zoned exclusively for single-family homes.
House Bill 1337 removed many of the barriers to building ADUs and DADUs, eliminating owner-occupancy requirements, reducing parking mandates, and streamlining the permitting process.
